This year's IWIED theme is #EngineeringIntelligence. How do you think you show #EngineeringExcellence in your work?
The support and knowledge shared by fellow engineers have given me the confidence to ask questions and challenge myself to learn more. For me, engineering excellence means continuous development—staying curious, learning from others, and constantly building the skills and understanding needed to become a better engineer.
So much has changed in the 50 years since Cundall was founded. What changes would you like to see in the next 50 years, and how do you think we'll get there?
I'd love to see more women in engineering. Growing up, I had no idea roles in data centres existed, or how varied and engaging engineering could be. Exposing girls to engineering from an early age and showcasing the women already in the industry is crucial, seeing people they can relate to helps them pursue careers they may never have considered.
What’s a myth about your role that you’d love to bust?
"Electrical engineering is repetitive". No two projects are exactly the same. What I enjoy most about my role is the challenge of solving problems and finding innovative solutions that meet each project's requirements. A solution that works on one project may not work on another, and that's what makes the role so fun.
What’s one experience or milestone in your career that shaped who you are today?
Starting my apprenticeship is what I am most grateful for. Before joining the industry, I had little understanding of what engineering involved or the opportunities it could offer. Working alongside experienced engineers who encourage me to ask questions and learn gives me the confidence to grow.
