This year's IWIED theme is #EngineeringIntelligence. How do you think you show #EngineeringExcellence in your work?
I demonstrate engineering excellence by surrounding myself with a supportive, diverse team. Bringing together different perspectives and ways of thinking helps us challenge ideas and ultimately deliver more holistic, impactful solutions.
So much has changed in the 50 years since Cundall was founded. What changes would you like to see in the next 50 years, and how do you think we'll get there?
Looking ahead, I’d like to see more women represented in leadership roles. Cundall has already taken meaningful steps in this direction through training and women in leadership programmes, and by continuing to invest in these opportunities, we can empower more women to grow, develop, and thrive in their careers.
What’s a myth about your role that you’d love to bust?
Myth: Sustainability consultants just tick boxes and add cost. Reality: We help shape better decisions early, reducing risk, improving performance, and often saving money over the life of a project.
What’s one experience or milestone in your career that shaped who you are today?
One milestone that really shaped me was moving from the UK to Australia early in my career and having to re‑establish myself professionally. I’d already built technical expertise, but starting again in a new market pushed me to develop confidence, adaptability, and stronger stakeholder skills.
It taught me that credibility isn’t just about knowledge, it’s about how you communicate, build trust, and add value in unfamiliar environments. That experience still shapes how I approach complex projects and leadership today.
