This year's IWIED theme is #EngineeringIntelligence. How do you think you show #EngineeringExcellence in your work?
I show engineering excellence through my multidisciplinary background, delivering high-quality solutions across large-scale global projects. I combine diverse technical expertise with sound judgment, using data and creativity to solve complex problems. My global exposure helps me collaborate effectively across cultures, continuously refine processes, and consistently meet the highest standards—embodying engineering intelligence in every project I lead.
So much has changed in the 50 years since Cundall was founded. What changes would you like to see in the next 50 years, and how do you think we'll get there?
Over the next 50 years, I'd like to see the industry achieve truly net-zero built environments globally, with circular economy principles embedded in every project. We'll get there by accelerating AI and digital tools for smarter design, scaling renewable energy, and prioritising ESG integration. My multidisciplinary experience on large-scale global projects positions me to help drive this transformation through collaboration and innovation.
What’s a myth about your role that you’d love to bust?
A myth I’d love to bust is that being a female engineer means you’re less technical, less decisive, or better suited to “softer” tasks. In reality, my value comes from my expertise, judgment and experience on large, complex projects, not my gender. I lead multidisciplinary teams, make critical engineering decisions, and contribute innovative ideas just like any other engineer — excellence in our field is gender‑neutral.
What’s one experience or milestone in your career that shaped who you are today?
One milestone that shaped who I am today was working on the projects in the Middle East. That experience opened my eyes to the scale, pace and ambition of truly global development, and exposed me to diverse cultures, regulations and ways of working. It broadened my perspective beyond local practice, strengthened my adaptability, and reinforced my passion for delivering integrated solutions that work across different contexts and stakeholders.
